During our winter trip along the Turquoise Coast, we based ourselves in three towns: Antalya, Kaş, and Fethiye. Bodrum and Marmaris are shown here as well, even though we didn’t visit them on this trip. We spent time in both about a year and a half ago, and they are very much part of this region, often called the Turkish Riviera. As you’ll see, the scenery along this coast is breathtaking, and the name “Turquoise Coast” is well earned. The water truly is that vivid shade of blue. Enjoy.

Its streets, monuments, and artifacts continue to inspire awe and offer invaluable insights into the lives of those who walked them centuries ago.

The Basilica of Saint John and the Ayasuluk Fortress in Selçuk, Turkey, are two historic sites rich in cultural and religious significance. Perched on Ayasuluk Hill, they offer both insight into the area’s ancient Christian and Byzantine heritage and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Built in the 6th century, the Basilica of Saint John marks the believed burial site of Saint John the Apostle. Although now in ruins, its cross-shaped layout, carved columns, and arches still echo its former grandeur. Nearby, is the Ayasuluk Fortress, with its origins dating back to the Hellenistic period. Visitors can explore its courtyards and ancient cisterns while taking in panoramic views. Together, the basilica and fortress offer a memorable look into Selçuk’s history, blending spirituality, architecture, and a deep sense of heritage.
