Asheville, Nashville, and What’s Next

York, England - where we kicked off our travels this time back in January.

It’s hard to believe, but our 4½-month journey is coming to an end. Next week, we’ll be heading back to the U.S.

We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone! We’ll be spending time in both Nashville and Asheville, and the next few months will be full of family time, catching up with friends, and reconnecting. Carla will also be meeting with clients in both cities - she continues her architecture and interior design work whenever we’re home - so it’ll be a busy time for her. All in all, we expect this to be a full and fast-moving stretch.

So, what’s next?

Starting December 1, we’ll hit the road again - this time for 6½ months of travel. We’ll be staying in Sicily, Malta, Turkey, Montenegro, Croatia, and wrapping things up with six weeks in Greece, splitting that time between Chania (on the island of Crete) and Naxos.

We’re really excited for this next chapter of travel, but we’re just as excited to spend the next few months back home with the people we love. That balance between connection and adventure means a lot to us.

People often ask if we ever get tired of traveling - or if we plan to eventually settle down somewhere abroad. It’s a good question, and one we’ve thought about a lot.

The honest answer? Yes, sometimes we do feel tired from all the moving around. While we’re deeply grateful for this lifestyle and wouldn’t trade it, there are definitely days when we miss the stability of a routine, the nearness of loved ones, and the comfort of having a regular home base.

What makes a big difference is having a place to return to in the U.S. A few years ago, we sold our house and most of our possessions, but we’ve been incredibly lucky to have a wonderful housesitting arrangement in Nashville - just four doors down from Carla’s parents.

To say we’re grateful doesn’t even come close. It’s a true gift. It gives us time to rest, recharge, and spend meaningful time with family and friends in a space that really feels like home. And it’s a win for the homeowners, too - they know their house is being cared for by people they trust. It’s a rare setup, and we don’t take it for granted for a single moment.

As for settling down permanently abroad, we’re getting closer to making that decision. While we haven’t chosen a specific town or city yet, we have made one big decision: when the time comes, we think our home will be somewhere in Greece.

Right now, we’re trying to decide between three places we love: Corfu, Chania, and Naxos. Each has its own special charm, and choosing just one feels like a big decision - especially because we’re drawn to all of them.

So when will we officially settle down? The truth is, we’re not sure yet. Sometimes we feel ready to create a more permanent home. But just when we start leaning in that direction, the excitement of travel calls us again. The joy of discovering new places still fills us with energy.

We’ve come to understand that our plans are always changing. What feels right today might shift in a few months as new experiences shape how we see the world - and what “home” means to us. That’s part of the beauty of this journey. We’re not following a strict plan. We’re staying open, listening, and adjusting as we go.

So while we haven’t landed yet, we’re getting closer. And wherever we end up, we know it’ll be a place that feels right in both heart and spirit.

While we’re back in the U.S., I’ll still be posting - maybe not as often as when we’re traveling, but I’ll definitely keep you updated.

Wishing you a beautiful summer, and as always, thank you for being part of this journey with us. Your interest, encouragement, and support mean more than we can say. ❤

It's wonderful that you have this opportunity. I am envious in many ways but without kids, our pets keep us grounded in NC and we don't like to be away from home for more than 14-15 days. We will be in Chania in November, thanks to your blog, and I suppose our next stop will need to be Naxos at some point!

Thank you for your beautiful blogs, SImcha and Carla. 💖

Thank you, Lynn. It’s great that you have something grounding you in North Carolina. I think you’re going to love Chania. Crete as a whole is incredible - so much history, beauty, and character. As your trip gets closer, feel free to reach out with any questions or thoughts. I’m happy to help in any way I can!
